Manzanillo is on the Pacific side of Mexico, and is a great alternative to some of Mexico’s other beach areas. The area has more than beautiful beaches: waterfalls, unpolluted lakes and rivers, ATV excursions, and even an active volcano about an hour and a half away. If beaches are what interest you the most, there are many to choose from. Free, public beaches are prevalent, as are private beaches that charge a fee in exchange for a lounge chair, towel, and beverage service. Check for posters advertising upcoming Mariachi band events, or just head to Los Portales on the square in Comala, about an hour inland. Mariachi bands play in the area nearly every afternoon.
